About this property

Welcome to The Lakeland Hotel, Kendal

The Lakeland Hotel in Kendal is a former coaching inn that combines historic charm with practical facilities. Guests will find a bar and restaurant on site, along with a sprung dance floor, creating a casual space for dining and socializing. The en suite bedrooms, while not luxurious, provide comfortable accommodation suited to travelers seeking convenience and straightforward amenities.

Located on Station Road, the hotel is a short walk from Kendal’s National Rail station, making it convenient for visitors arriving by train. It also sits close to the River Kent and within easy walking distance of Kendal Castle ruins, providing some local sights worth exploring. Despite some dated features noted in guest reviews, the location is often praised for accessibility and proximity to town.

Amenities include free Wi-Fi, breakfast options, and a smoke-free environment, while the hotel is child-friendly but does not offer air conditioning, a pool, or airport shuttle services. Guest feedback highlights the staff's helpfulness and the comfortable beds, though some have mentioned occasional supply issues during breakfast. This could be so much netter. The high spot is Wonderful Linda, who checked us in on Sunday evening and covered the late shift on Sunday and Monday and Tuesday. When your catering delivery fails apparently two days running (shortages at Monday breakfast, ran out of eggs at 0847am Tuesday morning) you go out to Morrisons (one mile away) or Lidl (just round the corner) to buy the missing eggs, mushrooms and tomatoes. Tomatoes finally turned up on the Wednesday morning breakfast plate. We felt sorry for the breakfast staff who had to apologise repeatedly. This is a failure of management. The rooms were windproof, solid and warm (room 405 suffers from inadequate soundproofing to room 305). We are both certain that there is an even better hotel trying to get out, with excellent staff such as Linda already in place. Very convenient for Kendal train station. Three night stay, Sunday 28Sep2025 departed Wed 01Oct2025.

Great hotel. Great price. Right next to the train station and only a short walk into town. Nice breakfast also. Rooms clean and perfect for the price. Would 100% stay again.

I stay here for work every week and the staff are always helpful. Rooms are comfortable and the main thing is the beds are comfy and bathrooms clean. It’s not the Hilton but better than most of the hotels I have stayed in within Kendal. Restaurant is also good, select menu but enough variety. Location is great for the station but also a short walk to town and restaurant

Linda.. this young lady provided nothing but first class service from checking us in to serving us at the bar. A true hero, one that should be recognised and learnt from throughout the entire best Western brand.. dare I say.. the entire hospitality industry. I would travel hours out of my way to stay here again in the vein hope of enjoy the pleasure of interacting with both Linda and a fantastic lady called Leah. 10/10 would stay again and would recommend.

Only went for breakfast and a drink but the staff were all so lovely and attentive. The breakfast was really good value for money.

The Lakeland had clearly been a powerful player on the Kendal hospitality scene being situated opposite the railway station and yards from the old A6. It's glory days have gone but it is still a decent play to stay based on my single night occupancy. The foom was sound. The heating worked, the shower worked well, the toilet flushed and the bed was comfortable. I could gaze out from my window over the ebb and flow of traffic and passengers making their way to the station. The breakfast was freshly cooked. The bar area was functional and the bottle of Doom Bar was pleasant enough. The lift worked. Because the hotel was quiet, I was able to park outside. The service was exceptional. The young Polish born lady who checked me in was extremely helpful. The next morning the young woman who had been sent up from Chorley was a breath of fresh air. She was chatty, interested ( and iinteresting) and had a smile as wide as Windermere. She was a real asset to this, or any other, hotel. A good stay. Thank you.

Decent little place. Hotel is quite dated but comfortable. Ideal location, less than 10mins walk from the town centre. We needed to park the car and used the cricket club for that which is only 3min walk from the hotel.
